Happy New Year

Happy New Year!  I've been away for awhile, but I wanted to take time to wish each of my readers a Happy New Year.  I announced on an earlier post that my daughter was expecting.  She went into an early labor and delivered at 31 weeks.  My new granddaughter, Zarriah Gabrielle, was born 8/28/2011.  She weighed 2lbs. 10 oz.  Not only did we have that crisis, Hurricane Irene hit Virginia Beach, VA, which is where my daughter lives, the day she went into labor.  Somehow her  husband made it home in time to tape up the windows and secure it as much as possible.    What was incredibley strange on top of everything else, an earthquake hit my area about a week before all this happened.  I live approximately 1.5 hours from Washington, DC.  We don't have earthquakes here.

Needless to say, I've spent the majority of my time at my daughter's home since the end of August.  Zarriah was in the NICU for 60 days.  Sixty of the longest days of my life.  My daugher went in and out of a deep depression.  There were days that it took everything we had to get her out of bed.  I also have a 4 year old grandson that still needed to be cared for and a SIL, so to the rescue I went.  Life is getting back to normal for me.  Zarriah is home and weighs 11 lbs. now.  We had a great Thanksgiving and Christmas, we have so much to be thankful for.

I'm looking forward to the New Year.  Starting plants from seed, getting the garden ready, planting and than the harvest.  I'm also looking forward to reading your blogs and catching on what's happening with each of you.

May each of you be blessed.

  1. I have missed you Rhonda. Now I know why. I am so glad that the baby is thriving. Life throws us enough curves, but to deal with the forces of nature on top of it all just does not seem fair. Glad all is well and I am looking forward to reading all about your garden. Happy New Year to you.

    1. So happy to hear the baby is doing well now. I had a son who weighed just over 3 pounds at birth, so I know the difficulties your daughter faced. Let's hope 2012 is a better year for you, 2011 was not so great. No more hurricanes or earthquakes, OK?

  5. Rhonda, one of the greatest blessings in life, to me, was becoming a grandparent; I am so thrilled that you have your grandchildren in your arms. ~Debra
