How Do You Store Your Seeds?

Many stores are clearancing their seeds.  I'm picking up a few packs here and there.  How do you store your seeds and where do you store them.   I'm also wondering if I should wait until next year to purchase.  Any suggestions for this newbie would be appreciated.

  1. I store mine in the house in a binder. I wrote a post about it: http://raechillgarden.blogspot.com/2011/05/remedy-for-seed-packet-chaos.html
I think as long as they are kept cool and dry they'll be fine.

  2. I put mine in envelopes and keep them in a drawer. I've reused seeds and I would say about 70% of the time it works. It's worth a shot!

  3. @Raechill; @Desperate Gardener - Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be buying lots of seeds! Now I need to figure out how I'm going to get them to germinate in the spring, lol! I see a greenhouse on the horizon.

  4. I have purchased seed this way. I think it is important to read when the seed was produced or sell by date. If it is a bit older just buy another pack because the germination rate will be a bit decreased.

  6. I usually just keep them in the envilopes they come in and keep them in a cool dry place. The next year they might not all germinate but just plant them a bit closer together and once they do come up thin them to the correct density. Thats what we did in our garden this year. Nothing has come up yet because we just planted. It has been way to wet to get anything in. Here is a picture after our first irrigation turn.

  7. We always place them on the table..., as a reminder to sow quick!

  8. I use Ziploc bags, paper bags and envelopes. Than store them in a safe dry place.
